Working on Ourselves From a Place of Self-Acceptance

One of my favorite quotes comes from the late Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki--"Each of you is perfect the way you are ... and you can use a little improvement.” What does this have to do with coaching? I think it's a great reminder that even as we want to improve and build our skills, it isn't about fixing something that is broken within us. Each of us is already skilled in many ways, contributing our unique talents and valuable. So the goal is to acknowledge what we are already good at, use that as a launching pad to grow from our strengths, and find gentle ways to push ourselves without falling into the trap of beating ourselves up.
